here. |

This was an adder sheet that list all of the
parts for 36 and 40 hp VW engines. This can
give you and idea of what parts are interchangable
(not many). Not that the housing are different! |
 |
On the back side of the Judson Parts List is the
instructions onto take supercharger apart. |
 |
This is page 1 of 4 to the 36hp installation
instructions. Note the 25hp and 30hp generator pulley
1/2 did not need to be replaced. Also, where to drill
the hole for the choke cable (ouch). |
 |
This is page 2 of 4 to the 36hp installation
instructions. Karmann Ghia instructions did not yet
include the scoop, just a 3 inch hole in the rain pan
(not throught the deck lid). Lubricator could use #10
detergent motor oil or Marvel oil. Use only 9 degrees
of advance! |
 |
This is page 3 of 4 to the 36hp installation
instructions. Talks about where to install the
pressure gauge and how to take the unit apart. |

This is page 4 of 4 to the 36hp installation

This is a restored 36 HP VW Judson
Supercharger Kit VW-I.. The generator pulley
half is reproduced in aluminum where the original is
a stamped steel. A 28PCI Carb is stock for the 36 HP
Use Stock Solex #120 or #122.5 main jet
( the original might be 117.5). There is a
spring to put into the fuel pump. I guess at
high speeds the fuel pump must not have kept upwith
the stock spring. This blower is usually stamped VWI
and has the double belt pulley. Belt tension is
adjusted by the number of gaskets placed
between the blower and intake. |
 |
Front view of a 36 HP Judson
Supercharger. Installed on my 56
Karmann Ghia engine. Note the Judson electronic magneto. The
Generator Pulley half is a reproduction. |
|
I never put the belts onto the
blower yet. I also have to flare the end of the gas line, any ideas? |
 |
Front view with the Judson and Magneto, compare
the hieght of the Judson air cleaner to the stock air
cleaner below. |
 |
Here I put the stock air cleaner on, the standard
Bosch coil, standard fuel line, and standard
distributor (I had a Bosch 010 distributor on in the
Judson photos, no vacuum advance). |
 |
On my restored Judson here is what the tag looks
like. On it is stamped VWI. |
 |
Sown here is a 36 HP Judons air cleaner on the
left with a 40 HP air cleaner on the right. The
40 hp air cleaner used part of the original VW
air cleaner. The original air cleaner snout was
cut off and attached to the Judson air cleaner to
provide preheat to the carb. Also, the 40 hp
unit has a pipe (not shown here) to connect the
engine oil breather pipe from the oil
filler stand. |

NOS 40 hp Judson belt with Judson Logo on it!!!!
The Judson Belt is a "Gates 8210"
for 36 and 40 HP. I have not verified this so if
someone else knows different please let me know. |
 |
The old oilers had a Judson red decal placed on
them. Shown on the left is the NOS oiler from
the 40 HP kit. The original Marvel decal was a
water transfer decal where the new ones (on the
right) is a paper decal. New oilers are available
from Marvel for about $90 USD. Note that the original
oiler had a safty wire that ran down under the
bottle and the pickup tube was longer with a
mesh screen on the bottom of it. Marvel Oil
